This past Saturday we walked 20km in support of Sick Kids Hospital Foundation. The Great Camp Adventure Walk raised over $2.1 million with 2,800 participants walking. With the help of our sponsors, team Rootin’ for Roo raised over $2,600. Thank you to Sanremo Bakery and Red Tree Hot Yoga in Mimico for donating raffle prizes that helped us surpass our fundraising goal.
It was amazing to see so many families, friends, and Sick Kids employees walking together. It was an incredibly well organized event with snacks, cheering squads, and games along the way. Around every 2.5km there were “camps” with various kid-friendly activities, like hand painting, skip rope, and singing. The crowd of walkers thinned out after each rest stop, but there were some very determined kiddos who made it all the way. They can teach us all a thing or two about not giving up. 🙂
We started at the Fort York base camp, then moved through Kensington, downtown, Cabbagetown, and Corkdown, looping back west along the waterfront, only stopping for lunch at Riverdale Park. It was a great way to explore the different Toronto neighbourhoods on a beautiful sunny fall day.
Ruby was a trooper! We decided to let her tell us how far we’d go, expecting she may get tired of her stroller and carrier after a couple hours but she didn’t complain at all. She had her regular naps and was super cheerful throughout. She must’ve wanted to hit 20km too.
Once again, we’re feeling so thankful to be part of the Sick Kids community. We’ve already registered for the 2017 walk, and welcome you to join team Rootin’ for Roo!
